Ongoing Projects

Each year there are many projects throughout the Byway corridor. These projects are often funded by grants, donations and support from private, local, state and federal sources. The purpose of these projects is to enhance the Byway region, cultural / recreational opportunities, natural habitats and visitor resources.

Upcoming / Ongoing Projects

  • Continuation of a multi-year Grouse & American Woodcock habitat improvement project in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Natural Resource Conservation Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife and the Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. 
  • Construction of a a handicap accessible trail at the Robbins Hill scenic area. This trail will be compliant with ADA requirements. 
  • Expansion of  FAST (Forks Area Scenic Trail). This  multipurpose trail follows the Old Canada Road and allows opportunties for hiking, biking, and winter recreation 
  • such as snowmobiling and x-country skiing.
  • Construction of a sawmill building, which will feature historic sawing equipment.
  • Construction of an information Kiosk in Jackman displaying resources for travelers.
  • Ongoing maintenance and cleaning of rest areas, picnic tables, shelters and restroom faclities.
